I forgot I had a blog. Also, Road ID.

I actually forgot about this. I had really high hopes of running a blog when I moved to DC. I was going to talk about what it was like moving somewhere I didn't really know anybody, my new job, the new city, everything!

I guess in the midst of unpacking and organizing my new life I forgot about it. It's ok, it was going to probably be really boring.

2 years later...

I've been here for 2 years now. It's probably a good thing I didn't keep this running, I can't imagine any of what I would have had to say would be very interesting. DC has been great, my job(s) have been so-so. My new friends have been awesome. Most of all cycling here has been amazing. I was a more/less recreational cyclist before I moved here, with dreams of someday racing, b
ut I didn't think it'd ever happen. I've ridden bikes forever though, grew up racing bmx, then rode street and ramp throughout high school. I was only ever good at one thing in life though, that was ice hockey, I figured that would forever be my sport. Even know I will probably never play again I thought I would never be that good at anything again. Turns out, even though my heart isn't built for cycling I can sometimes force it to do things it doesn't otherwise want to. I'm not a great cyclist, and I've never won a race (lots of top 10, some top 5's), but I can see myself improving as a cyclist faster that I thought
possible. It helps to have great people to ride with. There is no shortage of fast guys in the DC area, and I love riding with them. They make me hurt, but they make me faster.

26 years later...

My birthday was yesterday, the 20th, I turned 26. Lauren got me maybe the best birthday present anyone could buy a cyclist. She got me a road ID. For those of you who aren't cyclists / runners, a road ID is basically a dog tag. It's like a dog tag for those of us with anaerobic qualities and not sharpshooting qualities. The ones who regularly ride and run on the road with traffic and maniac drivers. I've personally been hit 3 times by cars, so I know how useful these can be.

If you know me at all, you know I'm basically obsessed with all things QUEEN, especially Freddie Mercury, so my road ID should come as no surprise...
